SVG is a great language from the W3C, an alternative to Flash for vector graphics in some cases..
SVG is standardized, open source, text based, and is an XML name-space.
I created the Experimental SVG Site below back in 2000 when SVG was just nearing it's 1.0 capabilities.
(This SVG site can only be viewed with the Adobe SVG plug-in
[in IE] because of the
extensive SMIL animation I used.)

I hacked together Or a great SVG Kaleidoscope by Kevin Lindsey and myself.
This simple spinner graphic above is a Flash animation I did with
"Illustrate!" in 3ds Max a few years ago.
Flash 9 is now used everywhere on the internet,
especially for those animated advertisements you see. I'm hoping Adobe will make Flash
read and render SVG+SMIL files. (Flash's maker, Macromedia, was purchased by Adobe.)
